Karel Espandr started his music career in
the eighties in the famous “Hanspaul-City” independent rock music scene as an electric guitar player in various groups including Vyamhum Quas Group and local legends, Hugo Band.

Within the Prague alternative scene, he worked with many creative musicians.

As a session guitarist and performing musician,
he participated in many recordings of singles and albums and in live concert performances of popular Czech singers and groups (including Combo FH, Bara Basikova, Marcela Brezinova, Lesek Semelka, and Viktor Sodoma).

For Czech superstar Lucie Bila, Karel composed the song Rozvaliny (with lyrics by Jan Fischer).

In Slovakia, he was known as the guitarist of superstar Marika Gombitova’s group and later also

as a member of the Czech-Moravian-Slovak rock group Mandragora.

In 1990, Karel’s debut album East Meets West was recorded for the English label Sumo Records and produced by Steve Gresswell. Karel was also noticed by various British radio stations and the BBC.

At that time, he was also accepted into the Musician Union as the 1st Czech guitarist and author not resident in the UK.

In 2015, Karel recorded his breakthrough solo album “Coming Through”, which caught the attention of music critics and opened the way for music articles and interviews. English mix engineer Richard P. James assisted with the interesting sound of this technically demanding album. Lyricist Zdenek Majer has also been an important part of Karel Espandr’s musical journey over the years.

Karel now proudly presents his third album
“100 Smiles” with includes the contributions of singers from Australia, Great Britain and the US.
